A very exciting project beginning here, one that carries a real sense of history.

Once an old plant nursery and farmhouse, this property has seen many changes over the years. As its use shifted and the landscape passed through different hands, many of the garden’s original features were gradually lost beneath overgrowth and a long period without maintenance.

Since purchasing the property, our clients have put a huge amount of time, care and love into restoring the garden themselves, slowly uncovering the character of the space and bringing its story back to life.

One of those discoveries was this large old pond, hidden beneath layers of bush and Ivy, waiting to be revealed once again.

We’re now on site to begin the next phase of its restoration, starting with the excavation of unstable materials and the rebuilding of a new retaining wall.
The plan is to finish the pond with a steel edge wrapping around the full circumference, giving it a clean, strong and bespoke finish.

It is always special to be part of a project like this, where a forgotten feature is not only rediscovered, but thoughtfully restored so it can continue its story within the garden for years to come.

By digging deep, improving the soil properly, incorporating organic matter, and returning throughout the winter to carry out maintenance, we were able to give each tree the best possible start and create the conditions needed for a healthy establishment.

Every garden bed has its own conditions, and part of the beauty is learning to work with them rather than against them.

For this space, we began by clearing out the weeds, improving the soil and topping it up to create a healthier foundation for new growth.

We started this garden project last year, when our clients invited us into their space with a vision for a ‘secret garden’.

Before the work began, our clients felt there was a perceived limit to the length of their garden. Since our first visit, that feeling has shifted through the way we’ve been able to work with the space, opening up new possibilities and creating a better flow through the garden.

Upon our return this year, we were faced with the challenge of fully connecting both ends of the garden seamlessly, while continuing the sense of movement we had already begun to create.

After taking the time to listen, talk through ideas and understand how our clients wanted to feel in the space, we were ready to move forward into action.

With a set window of time and a pallet of materials to repurpose from within the garden, the work began: creating new beds, new paths, and a centre point where different ‘rooms’ and avenues could flow through and from.

But most importantly, we wanted to create something that felt like a sanctuary for our clients when they stepped into the garden.

Our team has created a beautiful entrance into the little nooks this garden holds — from the seating area surrounded by wildflowers, to the little hut that lives hidden under the trees.

We’re excited to see this garden continue to grow throughout the next half of the season, flourishing with wildflowers and the ‘tall wavy plants’ our clients envisioned.

By using existing material, we have kept a more natural and settled feeling throughout this cottage garden inspired layout.

We've implemented a planting plan designed to this area, using trailing and low-growing species such as Thymus serpyllum to help the garden knit together beautifully over time.

Now with each plant set out following the planting design prepared with our client, the physical design has been coming together well. The inspiration has been low maintenance with ground covers to flowering seasonal interest and a select species of specialty trees.

The introduction of new trees has been a row of Birch at the back of the patio. A gorgeous red barked, Tibetan Cherry tree was also planted by our team and a new Amelianchier tree, which are similar to a cherry tree but have a much longer flowering time.

We're setting in the mulch to provide an overall visual appeal to the planted areas and this will help to protect the new plants and provide nutrition for the soil overtime.

We're looking forward to seeing the ongoing growth of this garden.🌿

A practical transformation with a long-term purpose behind it.
Our client was concerned about the brick wall beginning to fail under the weight of a mature wisteria that had gradually started pulling against it over time.
To protect both the wall and the plant, we installed a new trellis and post support system to carry the weight properly and guide the wisteria in a safer direction as it continues to grow.

Especially exciting, we had a little audience from after school children, who themselves, were doing planting activities. They were very curious and the team got to share facts about trees and answer their questions about how to look after newly planted trees.

Last year we planted this cherry tree just after its flowering season had passed, so we never got to see it in bloom at the time.

This spring it’s come back with the most beautiful bright pink blossom, and it’s been so lovely to witness it properly this year. 🌸

Our client, who has a strong passion for horticulture and nature, needed the space to become easier to move through and enjoy.
Uneven paving and tight corners had become difficult to navigate, while areas of planting had become inaccessible due to growing past a manageable balance.

Beginning the plant removal process, our team have successfully relocated and reintroduced these established plants elsewhere, where they are continuing to thrive.

Beneath the surface of the new proposed planting beds, we uncovered layers of degraded weed membrane and densely matted roots, which had restricted soil function and limited biological activity. The underlying soil was heavy clay, compacted and low in organic matter.

To regenerate the ground, we incorporated high-quality soil and improvers, rebuilding a healthier growing medium capable of supporting both new planting and long-term soil life.

A new pond was introduced as part of this design, creating a valuable habitat feature within the garden. This is now beginning to support increased biodiversity, with early signs of wildlife returning to the space.

A small but great part of this projects journey, cutting a small access point within the fence boundary to encourage the movement of hedgehogs and other small species. This is an often overlooked but important step in supporting connected habitats.

This project was not just about improving how the garden looks or functions, but about restoring it as a living system. One that our client can move through, enjoy, and watch evolve over time.

To bring an immediate visual development to the space, we returfed the lawn and softened the layout by creating a gentle curved border, alongside relaying the existing stepping stones to continue the path into another area of the garden.

Last autumn we planted daffodils, crocus and tulips to help bring that early seasonal colour back, while also providing valuable nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators emerging from winter.

Daffodils are one of the first reliable food sources at this time of year. The crocus and tulips that follow, will continue to support bumble bees as the season moves forward.

It’s always rewarding to see these small signs of life returning to a garden, and we’re looking forward to watching this display grow stronger each spring.

When we first started working in this garden, the early spring bulbs that once appeared here had slowly disappeared over the years.

Last autumn we planted daffodils, crocus and tulips to help bring that early seasonal colour back, while also providing valuable nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators emerging from winter.

Daffodils are one of the first reliable food sources at this time of year. The crocus and tulips that follow, will continue to support bumble bees as the season moves forward.

Using hand selected indian sandstone paving and cobble sets, we custom made this bespoke patio to suit the design of our clients back garden. We opted for a variation in colour and texture to suit the brickwork of the house.

Each piece of stone was carefully cut with precise measurements to achieve the desired finish of this circle.
